Great Turnaround in the Quarterfinals

Karolína Plíšková has shown her fighting spirit again! In the quarterfinals of Brisbane International tournament she managed to fight back from a set down against the Italian Roberta Vinci, winning the next two sets to post a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 result and reach the semifinals.

The match didn’t start very well for the big-hitting Czech, who lost the first set 3-6. Then she called her coach, David Kotyza, onto the court for the first time this season, changed her strategy and started to dominate the match. She didn’t play so much into her opponent’s backhand anymore, improved her first serve accuracy, and that was a solid ground for her to build her comeback on.

“It was a difficult match, I really had to fight hard. I believed all the time that I would make it.” - Karolína Plíšková

Aktuálně šestá hráčka světového žebříčku Karolína Plíšková si sebejistě držela svůj servis, naopak při podání Italky se často nabízely obrovské šance. Celkem pětkrát v zápase si Karolína na příjmu vypracovala náskok 40:0, celkem měla k dispozici 18 brejkbolů a 5 jich proměnila. Pomohla si i 11 esy a zkušenou Vinciovou porazila ve třetím vzájemném zápase poprvé v kariéře.

Karolína confirmed she is a specialist in three-set dramas – this was the 53rd three-set victory in her career. In the next round she could face Angelique Kerber in what could be a rematch of the last year’s US Open final. The German, however, has to win her match against Svitolina first.
