Getting Ready for Prestigious U.S. Events
Karolína Plíšková’s preparation for the Mandatory tournaments in the United
States is in full flow. Following her return from Dubai, Karolína had a few days
off, which she used for regeneration and to meet her family. But now she’s busy
again, working hard on her shots and physical condition before the weekend’s
departure to the U.S.
Karolína’s start of the year has been excellent. Her current match record is 15-2 and
there are two brand new trophies from Brisbane and Doha standing on the
mantelpiece at her home. But the pace is blistering and Karolína is now getting ready
for another important part of the season under the supervision of her coach David
Kotyza, who was quite looking forward to this practice week. “It’s the first time
Karolína and I have at least a week’s time to do some fair amount of practice, because
in winter she was ill,” the pleased experienced coach explains.
Karolína’s regimen is now clear – a week of practice in the Czech Republic and then
almost a week at the venue. “Last season already showed that after a spell of quality
practice Karolína delivers some good performances. Let’s hope this model will again
prove successful,” Kotyza remembers her last year’s achievements in Cincinnati and
at the US Open, which came after a longer practice period.
Karolína was very successful in Indian Wells, reaching the semifinals in singles
where she was eliminated after a tight battle by Azarenka. In doubles she even made
it all the way to the final with Julia Goerges. However, this year she will no longer
participate in doubles competitions. Karolína and her coach Kotyza agreed that she
will focus solely on singles events. “It was a mutual decision with my coach. I had
great results in doubles and it was a great preparation for my singles games too, but
now I want to put all my energy in singles. I believe it’s the right thing to do,”
Karolína Plíšková says.
Following the prestigious event in Indian Wells, there is another important
tournament in Miami and Karolína Plíšková wants to leave a good impression and
confirm her excellent form in both cities. She lost only two matches so far this season
and is experiencing the best start of the year in her career.
