Three-Set Battle against Giorgi Sends Karolína into Round of Sixteen!

After beating the Italian Camila Giorgi Karolína has earned a spot among the top 16 players at the Australian Open Grand Slam. She was better in the decider and won the tough three-setter 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In the round of sixteen Karolína will face Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain.

The match against the tenacious Italian was a real test. Giorgi lost the first set after losing her serve just once and the second set brought several turns in the score as well as fantastic rallies that were highly appreciated by the audience.

Karolína was down by 0-3, but then twice managed to get within one point in the set. However, in critical moments she didn’t serve well and in the end lost the 3-6. But Giorgi needed three set points to finish the set.

Apparently, the Italian lost too much energy late in the second set and wasn’t so agile and accurate in the third. The key moment probably came in the third game, which lasted 12 minutes and Karolína managed to convert her fourth break point after some exhausting rallies.

Karolína then managed to hold her serve and ended the match on return. Giorgi fought hard, fended off three match points, but the fourth one was decisive.
